Yarm1914 research believe that William died in action on 2 November 1917 in Palestine fighting in the Egyption Theatre. He was born in Skelton in 1896 when his patents Thomas 40 a farm hand and his mother Ellen Ann (nee Mead) 38 lived at 2 Airy Hill Lane with brothers Robert Mead 15 and Thomas (Tom) 7 plus sisters Ellen Mead 12, Lydia Mary 9 and Hannah Elizabeth 4. His parents were married in 1874 in Guisborough. In 1901 the family were living in Stanghow. Robert married Hannah Johnson in 1905 and moved away and Lydia and Tom were servants in Loftus and Skelton respectively. In 1911 Thomas and Ellen had moved to Commondale and were living on their own. William was a farm servant at the Dowley's farm in Westerdale called Hollins Farm. It is believed that Thomas and Ellen Amm moved to Picton and William signed up in Yarm.
